noemi goudal’s photographic work is principally concerned with re-framing and narrating ideas of space; how it is imagined, dreamed and privately conceived. in her most recent project, entitled les amants, she examines “the invasion of man-made elements into organic landscapes introducing the passionate relationship that societies maintain with the world they live in, their desperate need of exploration and possession.” as a consequence, goudal’s photographs initially appear to be straightforward landscape shots; however, on closer inspection, they reveal the tainted presence of man. goudal will be exhibiting her work in both London and Milan before the end of the year. more details can be found on her site.

piroud's art is most at home on city streets, unashamedly amusing passersby... from his ephemeral seats that recondition the trunks of chopped-down trees (some of which have lasted up to two years before being removed), to the heart-shaped filters he applies to traffic lights, piroud is not afraid of creating amusing art. a favourite piece is the tennis court he painted onto a neighbouring roof (above). he is, he says, attempting to "put fiction in reality" in his pursuit of making "contemporary art about the city". more of his work is at starnocity.com.

it is not only dulux who has created these vibrant street scenes, dutch artists jeroen koolhaas and dre urhahn created their first ‘favela painting‘ back in 2006 and yielded two murals which were painted in vila cruzeiro, rio’s most notorious slum. this time their back on a monumental scale – unveiling a 7,000sqm art intervention that sees 34 houses, on the giant hillside favela of praça cantão, given a beautifully vivid overhaul…

speed of light
virgin medias laser light installation by united visual artists has finally opened. uva were commissioned by virgin media to create 'an immersive light installation celebrating 10 years of broadband in the uk'. it comprises a series of laser-based experimental light works which flow through the labyrinthine spaces of the bargehouse, the four-storey ex-warehouse on london's south bank. on entering the space, visitors are asked to speak into a suspended microphone to answer questions displayed on the wall in front of them. their answers follow them around the building as they explore the various installations over four floors. these sounds and others, as well as light, are carried around the building using fibre optics, thus tying in with the broadband theme. see a video of the installation here.

brightons west pier
on wednesday february 10 2010, brighton's west pier was lit up in the most spectacular fashion by a nifty rig of lasers... the laser installation entitled 'a pier appears' was the first in a series of events curated by josef valentino and commissioned by tiger beer to celebrate chinese new year. this particular spectacle was for one night only and the piece was created by french lighting studio creatmosphere - who used computer-controlled lasers for the project, which - by all accounts - stopped traffic and drew a crowd on the beach, despite a brief snowy blizzard which, as the next image attests, added nicely to the project: turns out snow falling through laser beams looks pretty amazing...

digital wallpaper by strukt
the basic idea was to light up the black and white striped office wall by mapping the architecture with multiple projectors. the program developed by strukt is scripted in vvvv and is scalable to any number of projectors and any architectural shape. several different visualisations have been realised already, amongst it a pac man animation as well as moving stripes, and more are in development. the content could also be made interactive, reacting to people passing the ground-floor offices. the hardware is courtesy of concept solutions vienna.

what a beautiful piece of work at w&k portland, created by wieden & kennedy 12. over 100,000 thumb nails were used and it took over 351 hours, but it just goes to show if you try hard enough, and keep going, you can make something exceptional.

the worlds coolest bus shelters
this made me smile this morning, i wonder if public transport would be more widely used if all bus stops had this much time, effort and creativity put into them. more here.

aroma lisa
i used to be a huge fan of art attack, and truth be told, i still am, so i love the 'aroma lisa' exhibited in the sydney's historic rocks district which held it's 12th annual aroma festival. it was made out of 3,604 cups of coffee and milk, very clever and pretty!

the Swarovski horse
this beautiful crystal horse was designed by Stella McCartney. I think some of the inspiration for this work possibly came from the artwork of Jesus Rafal Soto. Who was the first artist that creates 3D shapes using transparent thread.
