arno piroud

piroud's art is most at home on city streets, unashamedly amusing passersby... from his ephemeral seats that recondition the trunks of chopped-down trees (some of which have lasted up to two years before being removed), to the heart-shaped filters he applies to traffic lights, piroud is not afraid of creating amusing art. a favourite piece is the tennis court he painted onto a neighbouring roof (above). he is, he says, attempting to "put fiction in reality" in his pursuit of making "contemporary art about the city". more of his work is at starnocity.com.

unhappy hipsters
an amusing blog taking architectural style photographs from design magazines such as wallpaper, and adding amusing copy to them.
In their nuptial vows, they’d promised to never conceal anything, to remain completely open to one another. But the prison-style shower remodel wasn’t the anniversary gift she’d hoped for.

dixons : the last place you want to go
m&c saatchi, london, have created an unusual, and honest print campaign cheekily acknowledging the consumers pattern in shopping (we will get advice about expensive goods at a more upmarket store, but then nip online to make the actual purchase, where it is alot cheaper). using familiar fonts from a number of popular london retailers – selfridges & john lewis shown here, the ads open with a description of the benefits of shopping in these stores, before then reverting to the dixons font with the line "then go to dixons.co.uk to buy it". the self-harm/awareness continues with the ads' tagline, which is "the last place you want to go". i wonder how long it will take for selfreidges, john lewis, harrods and the rest to reply to these ads? my moneys on selfridges.

the glue society's ad
this ad for the australian tv show the glue society initially looks like a government health warning, but when you read the small print, one of the pieces of advice, alongside 'wear one of those little blue face masks', is to 'watch The Chaser's War on Everything'. its quite a funny and optimistic way of looking at the flu.
