lauren dicioccio embroiders common objects that are fragile or becoming obsolete. in her words, she uses "tedious handiwork and obsessive care" in an effort to "provoke a pang of nostalgia for the familiar physicality of these objects." in her series called sewnnews she encases newspapers in muslin and selects a powerful image to embroider. she also embroiders plastic bags and 35mm slides. i would love to see them all up-close.

dior at the XXEth biennale des antiques
last night I was invited to the dior fine jewelry collection show at the XXEth biennale des antiques exhibition, held at the beautiful grand palais. apart from the fact that it was held in one of the most beautiful buildings in paris (I don't think I will ever get over the architecture there), the collection was just amazing, so intricate and oppulent. I think I fell a little bit in love. and the icing on the cake to see an endless supply of picasso's, gen paul, chagall's, jean dubuffet, antiques and so much more surrounding it. all for sale, oh if only!
